More landscape speed paintings. The snow peaks I had done a week or so ago.

It's very difficult trying to achieve as much detail with minimal brush strokes as possible. I wouldn't mind if my paintings looked a bit more convincing for 30 mins work, but I guess I'm not hitting the right "spots" yet. I also don't think my colours are complimenting each other and my mark making looks very underdeveloped. Perhaps I should spend more than just 30 mins on a painting but I am not really good at detail to begin with.

The landscape work I do is all from my imagination which would be easy to know that I don't have much of one because, my landscapes are always either dull or ordinary.

So I'll leave it as that, and I hope you all have a great Easter.

Dinosaur Illustrations

These dinosaur paintings where done last year in '09 when I was eager to paint something prehistoric. I referenced these from another illustration as it's hard to find a other sources of Dinosaurs, each one was around an hour and a half. I'm guessing it would take me maybe half that time now or maybe just an hour.

It really helped me understand colours as the colours used in each dinosaur vary from one another. The highlights may not be in the best place but even now I'm not good at placing highlights or shadows sometimes.

I've been meaning to more dinosaur paintings but not in this style. I really enjoy painting loosely as possible and enjoy the texture brushes thoroughly . However, it seems that the more texture bruhes i use, the less effective my painting gets. So I'm just going to stick with standards brushes like I use to and maybe improve some on my brush strokes.

I spent about 30 to 40 mins on this painting. I'm just trying to learn landscape as best I can. Which means I'll be posting (hopefully) a lot more of these kind of sketches.

They are going to be very under developed because 30 mins is just clearly not enough time to fit everything I can. The main idea isn't to have a realistic looking landscape but to achieve for my self a very loose style that signifies my technique of painting.

Munin, who is a talented artist (who is found here http://munin-sketchblog.blogspot.com/ ), has given me tips on how to manage my brush strokes and colours. Thank you Munin. Btw, I tried very hard to stick with only one brush throughout this piece, towards the end I added a few texture brushes for effect.

Here are my steps, like mathematics working out :P

Gesture Drawings

Ok, i've been working on a lot of gesture drawings to work up my anatomy. I'm particularly practising the female anatomy. above are sketches done between 2 - 5 minutes. The drawings that have more tone in them are the 5 minute ones. mind you, these aren't new sketches.

The very first one (bottom left above the crossed legs) is Xia's of idrawgirls.com and I've learnt heaps from his style and advice. These sketches were references from real photos from google when I typed in 'models' and 'female anatomy photos' etc.

So I hope you take a look and learn a thing or two yourself from these sketches.

Cartoons

Well I finally done these cartoons I've been working on the past couple days.

I think I had done each one 30 minutes at a time, which would include a rough sketch, than new layer, and use some nice dark lines and shaping the sketch together.
It was fun, but my imagination is pretty weak. Sometimes I can't get my head around things like angles and proportions. I mean, I've studied human anatomy (not thoroughly) but enough to know the right proportions and get a nice look to it at least.

I had wasted maybe 30 minutes in total on these drawings but I think I at least learnt something. Anyway, the cartoon characters are actually my cousins, friends. It's really just as basic as I can make it. Colours, shapes, position and some tone.

Learning Curves

So I spent most of my weekend drawing some cartoons. I learnt a fair bit as I'm not much of a cartoonist but it was fun. The problem that I have with this is that I'm a very messy person, I sketch lines over and over until one line pops up in front of me and I don't bother to clean the image.

Another problem I'm having with Photoshop is that I am very lazy to use Layers. I mean, I know how to use them but I just cbf to be perfectly honest. Especially when I paint, I don't even bother to make new layers cause' i just paint over everything.

Anyway, back to the Cartoon thing, I drew a few drawings and it seemed I wasted all day on it. I mean, you know that feeling when you work a drawing up really loosely and after a couple of hours you take a step back and you think "I could of done this in thirty minutes!".

So anyway, the above images are more older drawings or speed paints. So, I'll post the other drawings later.
